Hi all-
The flyer for the Snowmass tourney for the Peaks and Valleys point series is attached. CLICK HERE. The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, 7/18. We are getting discounted lift tickets ($17 instead of $24) as long as we get at least 20 players. I am asking that players call me to pre-register so that I know how many players are going to show up. They can also send me an entry form with their payment prior to the tourney. I will be taking entry fees the morning of the tourney.
We will be playing both courses - the red course in the morning and the yellow course in the afternoon. We will have to do tee-times since the courses both play from the top of the gondola and finish at the bottom of the hill. The groups will stay the same for both rounds, since we will not have time to gather score cards and re-align the groups.
I will not be playing so I can coordinate things betwen rounds with each group. I will find a place near the base of the gondola for tourney central. Players will need to check in with me at the end of their first round, grab a quick lunch on their own, and then head back up the hill for the second round on the yellow course. Once the last group comes off the mountain after the second round, we will have the awards right away (since I won't be playing, I can get everything organized and ready).
Please print out some copies of the flyer to hand out to your local players and/or encourage players to get on the websites to get the flyers themselves. Again, I will need players to call me ahead of time so I can coordinate the lift tickets that we will need to purchase. Entry fees and lift tickets can be paid for the morning of the tournament.
As usual, check in will be from 8:00 to 9:00 with a players meeting at 9:30. The gondola starts running at 10:00, so we will send the first group up the mountain at that time, with the subsequent groups following. Remember, this is the week before the PDGA sanctioned event, so this will be a great opportunity to learn the course setup and get ready for the following week.
Brian and John, can you post the flyer on your respective websites for me? Again, I appreciate everyone's help. Looking forward to another great tournament!
Let me know should you have any questions.
See ya,
Mike Kalous

2010 ICE BOWL NUMBERS ARE FINAL
The results are official, The Grand Valley Ice Bowl Committee donated over $4,690.00 in cash and in kind donations to Starlene & Andrew at the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies! This goes along with the 1,480 lbs of food delivered earlier in the week.
With the Food Banks buying power, every $1.00 = $ 5.00 of food. Yes... that's right! We generated over $2o,ooo dollars in retail donations! Way to go Guys & Gals...awesome job disc golfers!
Also mark down next years date of Feb. 12th 2011, the Saturday after the Super Bowl, for the 11th annual Ice Bowl. No wimps, no whiners.
Dave Lens and the GVDGC Board
It's that time of year again. It's time to help out the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies to feed those less fortunate.
In 2008 we raised $8,000 in cash and 1,500lbs in food goods for the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies.
Let's see if we can do it again this year. We were 6th in the nation, let's try to get into the top 5!
When: February 13th, 2010, 10am check in, 11:30 is the tee off. Get here at check in!
Where: Riverbend Disc Golf Park, Palisade, Colorado
Details and Registration can be found at Triple Play Records, 530 Main Street, Downtown Grand Junction.
Why: To raise food and money for the local food banks. People need this more than ever. Two divisions Pro and Am. Random draw doubles within each division.
The after party is very important this year and will be held at the Palisade Brewery.
A silent auction of some really great stuff will be there to help raise even more money for the Food Bank.
So please come to the after party and bid on some items.
See you there!

URGENT UPDATE ON 2010 GVDGC BAG TAGS
The good news is that the club handed out 43 tags, we had great turnout and enthusiastic support for our initial 2010 bag tag match. The bad news is that OUR club was unprepared and disorganized for the event. WE did a poor job of accounting for the tags. Even though the club distributed 43 tags, we only received the cash due for 36 of them. Cash was not received for 7 "free" tags. If you inadvertently forgot to pay, you can still make good and help us out!... Positive disc karma can still be obtained! Please anonymously mail your $20.00 to: GVDGC P.O. Box 2074 Grand Jct. CO 81502 Thank you for your honesty and integrity. GVDGC Treasurer
It's that time of year everyone! The 2010 Tags are in and we are going to have the first tag match of 2010 at Palisade on Jan. 23rd @ 11:30am.
Membership is $20.00.
Why join? Simple, this money is used to run disc golf related events in the valley and help up keep current courses and potentially get new courses in the Grand Valley.
So come on out and play, it'll be a blast.
See you out there! |

Doug passed away at his home on Monday, Aug 17th.
He will be remembered in the disc golf community for his enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to help out in any situation. He embraced the disc golf community with strong, open arms.
Doug was elected an officer of the Grand Valley Disc Golf Club last year. He helped me move baskets many times. He volunteered at all the course cleanups, using his truck to pull stumps and haul brush. He was an Ice Bowl leader, ran the weekly league, and played tournaments. It will be hard to replace his big heart and strong back…really hard.
Doug’s wife Corrina has requested that a memorial basket be placed on the course. GVDGC has ordered one, and we will be putting a new practice basket by the parking lot near hole 18. A dedication ceremony for all will be held sometime in September, we will announce the date at a later time.
Donations for the basket purchase can be mailed to the Grand Valley Disc Golf Club, PO Box 2074 • Grand Junction, CO 81502.
Jerry Smith
As club President and as a friend of Doug's, I'd like to say a few words as well. Doug will be extremely missed by our community of disc golfers. You could always count on Doug to help out with a tournament, and for charity events he was a fundraising animal. He was always happy to play a round of golf, always willing to help improve the courses in the valley, always learning and trying to improve, and most of all, out there to have fun. He helped out with tournaments in anyway he could and was always first to volunteer. If you never got to meet Doug or play a round with him, you truly missed out and a great person.
May you have peace Doug, wherever you are.

Hey all, Gateway Canyons is proud to announce they have a new 18 hole course.
Here is the e-mail I received from Luke:
I hope all is well! I am excited to announce that we have 18 "Playable" holes here in Gateway! The course is still fairly rough but it is really fun! I have attached the map and scorecard for you to pass on to the rest of the members. Take a look and I hope to see a few folks down here to try it out. Should make for good practice for the GV Open coming up. The course has roughed in tee areas and flags marking the center line to the holes and to the next tee. Comments and suggestions from players are welcome! We are working on signs and hope to have those soon.
Thanks for passing on the word!
Luke
